Saturday, March 14 - Evening
Argus had fallen. Demandred had been defeated. The dark reign had come to an end.
As one team of Raiders disrupted the Ascension Engine and prevented an arcane apocalypse over the heart of Tolaria, the rest of the Raiders and their allies brought an end to the fighting across New Haven.
In separating the core ship from the carrier shell, Demandred had hoped to crush the city beneath the debris of the former Flying Fortress. Some of the most veteran Raiders had taken to the sky and drawn upon the depths of their powers to prevent the catclysm by directing the debris towards Lora Park, while their assembled air assets disrupted Argus’ aerial support until the airships of the League of Nations arrived, led by the Black Diamond itself, to end the dogfighting in the skies.
On the ground, a team led by Celeste and the former Dolls of TRIumph confronted the Agrgonauts brainwashed by the Ascension Engine under the command of Quake and successfully broke past their programming, resolving the fight without loss of life on either side. Meanwhile, the fighting between Aidyn, Saku, and the remnants of the Omegas against Vulcan and his loyalist Mavericks was a brutal and bloody affair, culminating in Havoc’s near sacrifice to give the demon twins the chance to knock his brother out. The Mavericks looked on in awe as the twins not only dealt the final blow to the Prophet of Argus, but spared his life with the intention of bringing him to the justice he had long since denied.
And then they had all felt it, the massive shockwave from the center of the island that seemed to indicate the beginning or ending of something terrible, followed by the call.
Argus had fallen. Demandred had been defeated. The dark reign had come to an end.
The days following had been a mixture of somber celebrations and recovery efforts. The battle above and within New Haven had caused a lot of damage, although a blessedly low injury count. Without Argus enforcing a stalemate with the League of Nations, recovery crews were brought in and Raider allies were allowed to operate in the open. The entirety of Metropolis, from Blackstone to Edgepointe, came together to undo the damage that Demandred had wrought.
While the city recovered, Demandred himself - along with the personnel who worked for Argus - were brought to Blackgate Penitentiary, the largest prison capable of holding metamobians currently available, given the destruction of the Triskelion. It wasn’t ideal, given the influx of prisoners and detainees willing to work with the local government against Argus, but it was the best Tolaria could offer at the moment.
Among those prisoners, in a power-dampening cell just as potent as the one holding Demandred, was a lesser-known criminal of great interest to the Raiders. Anastasia Darkholme had run out of allies, and was now being held alongside Argus as they awaited trial.
The Raiders, meanwhile, had been focused on the recovery efforts. The city wanted to show their appreciation, however, and so only a scant few days after the fall of Argus, an entire block in downtown New Haven had been cordoned off by the Tolarian Police Department to allow all of the Raiders - agents, security staff, family, and allies - to enjoy the local restaurants and storefronts on the city’s dime. From six until eleven, the Raiders had the entire block for themselves. Food trucks had even been brought in, as well as a DJ to provide some music to enhance the atmosphere. With a late snowfall dusting the street, the entire arrangement had the feel of a winter festival, overshadowed by the hardships endured over the last year of Demandred’s reign.
Shortly after the kick off at six, Elyas had given a speech through the DJ’s sound system, thanking Metropolis for their appreciation and a wonderful night, as well as asking for a moment of silence for those who had fought Argus but did not live long enough to reap the rewards of their rebellion. He urged everyone to make the most of the time they had, and pledged to re-dedicate the Raiders to protecting Tolaria in tandem with both official and unofficial organizations.
The Raiders were then free to enjoy their evening wherever, and with whomever, they saw fit.
