Their group had gained more members since they started MYMK, but that was okay. It was good they had more friends. Mei seemed more at ease today than she usually was, less quiet and reserved. She was smiling and having a good time. Still a far cry from the bubbly girl she used to be, but today she seemed much more normal.
With her hand firmly holding Kapp's she and the others were exploring some of the food vendors (most likely for desserts, knowing Yuki). She had a hot cocoa in her other hand that she was sipping on which had a giant marshmallow on top. "I could really go for a cinnamon roll..."
Xu, one of the new mebmers of MYMK, had his arm linked with Metzli and was positively beaming. He made no attempts to hide how proud he was of her, and had asked her to re-tell the story of their battle at least three times. He really hoped some of his Luck had been helpful for her, but you never know for sure with that type of thing, and it wouldn't diminish their win regardless. "Ooo, you know, if Snips n' Snails has a stand here, they have the best cinnamon rolls. You wouldn't think so, being a candy shop, but they do special orders of pastries for delivery. They've been trying to branch out into a coffee shop, but they don't yet have the morning traffic."

Metzli wasn't sure how much lucked played into the battle, but she wouldn't discount that they were lucky to have made it out with minimal injury. Hells, her brother was the one that shook off a demon hitchhiking; maybe the luck came into play because the world knew she didn't want to deal with that. All said, she didn't mind retelling the story, because it was an absolutely amazing one that she was a part of. She had spent so much time idolizing the Old Guard that she'd read up on their open and declassified missions, and had been able to wrench a detail or two from her parents when it came to the absolute insanity they had to deal with. And now, someone might look up her friend group and learn about their own exploits and become obsessed enough to push forward into some kind of protection or hero work.
"We can definitely keep our eyes open for them," Metzli said with brows lifting. "I'm not exactly an influencer with the Raiders, y'know, but if I try them out and think they're awesome, I'm totally down for spreading the word."
Her eyes moved occasionally to the others, constantly gauging their moods and reactions. She was very happy to see that Mei was more relaxed; even 'a little better' was better, right?
"I want coffee," was Hrist's simple, direct statement. "With liquor. Which one of you old enough to get that for me?

They'd had so much bad happen over the last....well, it felt like forever. Part of Yuki kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, for some backup plan of Anastasia's, or some new villain looking to pick up the power vacuum. But it seemed like no one wanted to mess with the peace (and overwhelming force) that had taken over.
So she stuck with her friends and kept reminding herself that everything would be ok. Which was easier when had a large cup of cocoa.
She still had a bit of a sad smile on her face as they walked around, seeming a bit subdued despite the festivities. Mentions of sweets did have her perking up, though. "Ok, you cannot just mention candy and cinnamon rolls in the same sentence. They better have a stall here." She chuckled, already looking around.

One of the surprising attendants of the Raiders celebration was the Dair family - not actual Raiders, and normally a family to shun the limelight, they nonetheless had contributed to Argus' final defeat, and had long (dubious) ties to the organization.
Aloe had slipped away from them at the earliest opportunity and quickly found Yuki, and was now walking alongside her, arms looped, a cup of cocoa in one of her hands.
"I think there was a food truck at the end of the block that was selling cinnamon buns. Didn't catch the sign, but you can totally smell it when you get close."

"Sorry, Hrist, still a few years away from that." Mei smiled at the rat and sipped her cocoa, "we'll just have to make do with these for now."
Xu nodded to Aloe and pointed towards the end of the block, "then to the end of the block we go! Hopefully, there will be some left."

Hrist smacked her teeth, folding her arms. "Aloe isn't old enough yet? Well maybe we'n get someone to slip me something in a bar," she mumbled. "Not like we just risked our lives, maybe when you fight a war for some months you deserve a sip of something good. I hear Makardi makes good fruity malt, maybe I'n bribe your dad to get me one," she grinned toothily to Mei.
Metzli wasn't at all taken aback at her cousin's being here, especially since Yuki was part of their group, but it was somehow always a welcome surprise when Aloe decided to tag along with them. She wondered why Glyph didn't hang around Vouse and Damien as much, but maybe he was more like his parents in that he liked to pretend he and the Raiders weren't friendly. Either way, it was good that she was along because Yuki wasn't beaming like Metzli had expected-- in fact, she had much the sort of careful relaxation that she sensed in her brother.
"I hope so," she responded to Xu. "After talking them up like that, I'm pretty interested in seeing what they've got to offer, y'know? After traveling a desert landscape, I won't take these delicious flavors for granted."

Yuki cocked her ears towards Hrist. "None of us are. Why do you want alcohol?" She nodded towards Metzli. "I'm with Metzli. After everything we've been through recently, I'd rather just eat all the sweets I can find."

"Sugar coma is much better than a hangover," Aloe agreed, speaking with an air of experience. "I could probably convince my dad to get us something mild, though..." She glanced over at Yuki, turning her thoughts inward toward the pendant she wore around her neck to get a sense of her girlfriend's feelings.

"Celebratory alcohol isn't a bad idea. I'd honestly be surprised if our parents didn't let us have a bit of something after all this. If only to toast the freedom of the island." Surely Tom and Ling would have given them a shot of their top shelf sake to try, the kind they kept for super special occasions. Maybe when she was finally able to go back to the house she'd see if she could find it.
Xu nodded at Mei, "yeah, my whole family has a drink for really special holidays. The adults get to have a full glass, the teens get to have half, and the kids get just a sip. It's a tradition."

"Thank goodness, I thought I was going insane. It's not about wanting to drink or be drunk or anything-- I ain't Jenet-okaa, don't worry," Hrist chuckled. "But I wan celebrate! Fireworks and whoopin' and hollerin' all nice, but I just wanna relax and I hear rum's a good way to make your shoulders loose. I usually just snuck some of the ship's wine... I'm sure Threnody and Duke knew but they never said anything 'bout it. When I'n finally get back to the Diamond, I'll see if Jenet-okaa'n Loki-okaa are good with me 'stealin' a half bottle.
She gave a meaningful nod to Mei. "To toast."
That Hrist's parents had access to liquor was no surprise, but there were rumors about the high potency of the stuff they tended to carry. "Eh, if I have something I think I'd ease into it. Something... I don't know, typical? A piña colada; pineapple and coconut are really good flavors, and you can adjust the amount of liquor in them, right?
Metzli blinked. "Guys. A piña colada baked... thing. It could be a filled donut or sweet roll, or something. And it doesn't have to be alcoholic at all, but I guess you could make a frosting with brandy or rum, y'know? But now I want pineapple, and I know there aren't gonna be pineapples at this cinnamon roll stand, but I'm getting one before I go to sleep."

Yuki shrugged, but had a bemused smile. "If that's what you guys want. But I will still pass." To Aloe, it seemed a wariness borne of familiarity, a ring of "not again".
That was the forefront of her emotions, though. The less focused, background ebb and flow was a nostalgic, wistful, bittersweet swirl.
Yuki was homesick.
She was trying not to let it show, staying engaged in the conversation. "I think I've seen something like that. Donuts, at least. It is a common flavor combination."

Aloe considered what she was feeling from Yuki as she made sense of what she felt through the pendant. "I'm not sure if pineapples are in season," she mused. "But donuts always are.
"Hey Yuki - when there was a celebration going on back in Lhunru, what kind of foods and stuff did you guys eat? Maybe we can find something similar to snack on around here."

Mei nodded to Aloe, "that's a good idea." She looked over to Yuki, "if alcohol isn't your idea of celebrating, we can find something that's a much better fit."
"Yes! Please tell me about your cultural food, Yuki. If we can't find anything that's close enough here, I can try to make something. Well, not tonight, obviously, but maybe later this week." That was, of course, if Xu could find the ingredients, get into a well equiped kitchen, etc.

Hrist skipped over and rubbed her cheek on Yuki's shoulder. "Don't worry your green lil' head 'bout it. I ain't trying to put you out or na'an. Loki-okaa would probably frown that I'm even considering who amongst these big people would be shady enough to break the law."
Metzli huffed, having forgotten about produce seasons. Pineapple would probably be expensive if fresh; she'd have to try to get a can of sliced pineapple from a store if her craving kept up.

Yuki's ears perked before flattening, her emotions going through a rapid flux of surprise, embarrassment, guilt, and amusement at being caught out by Aloe. The inundation of attention from the others didn't help, making it harder to recover her equilibrium and respond to the comments.
"Eto, um, no, that's, that's ok. This already reminds me of the Festival of Fortune back home. From last year? Or...almost two years for most of you. I do not know that there's anything specific. There is just....lots of vendors, like this." She motioned around with a small smile.
