The strong scent hadn't swayed Aloe from trying a sip - and immediately falling into a coughing fit.

"Oh... oh gods," she spluttered, setting her cup down so she didn't spill anything while she coughed into her free hand. "That... that is strong. I... we... we need shot glasses. Everyone. Needs a shot."

Hope drew up her legs to sit cross-legged in the lounger and looked over to Yuki and Aloe in the kitchen, her tail thumping the arm rest lightly, an amused grin spreading across her face.

"...I suppose it is always unwise to underestimate a Darklowe."

Yuki's ears flattened for a moment even as she smirked, torn between amusement and wariness over Aloe's reaction.

She settled fully into wariness when Aloe decreed that everyone should have a shot of the potent liquid. She looked across the group for a moment before looking back at Aloe, sighing. "I'm not getting out of this one, am I?"

"Ah-heeeee." Hrist's grin was wide and mischievous; she knew exactly what she had done and bought. "Y'ain't gettin' out of this, no. Everyone gets a shot. Ain't gonna try'n be silly'n make a contest out of it, Aloe'd probably win anyway. But here's where girls become women!" She put her hands on her hips, striking a magnificent power pose. "Grow a pair 'o tits and take it down the hatch!"

Metzli squinted, looking from Aloe to Hrist, to Yuki. "Guh, guess I won't even protest. I'm interested, but I'll be honest-- if even Aloe coughed at it, then I'm a little wary, y'know? Still, I'm not gonna be the scaredy-cat who didn't take a drink. So... pour it out, I guess." She was happy that there was plenty of food, since she'd heard that having something to eat helped take the edge off.

"Objectively correct." Grenadine responded to Hope's offhand Darklowe comment before shifting her attention about the room. From Hrist's challenge- and no, the irony wasn't lost on her- to the sudden shift toward group shots, it seemed the tone and topic was shifting back toward whatever drink Hrist had nicked from the Captain.

She tilted her head. "... Did anyone bring ssshot glasses...?"

[Resonance]

With the declaration of shots, Mei shifted from acquiring some for herself and went to rounding up glasses. “We’ll make it work,” she assured Gren with a smile. She lined up whatever she could find for Aloe and Hrist to take care of measuring out the liquor. “If I’d thought about it, I would have grabbed the sake cups. Oh well.”

Hope laughed and uncurled from the chair, placing one hand on Yuki's shoulder as she stood up and moved past her, twisting her tail to brush against Yuki's leg. "Over there," she said, directing Mei. "Aidan and Ender keep a few on hand, even though neither of them are particularly hard drinkers."

Aloe shook her head at Yuki's question, her coughs subsiding. "Hrist is right. Doesn't matter if it's good or not, this is a rite of passage. No one should graduate high school without taking a shot of of some kind, and we just saved the damn island. We earned this right!"

Yuki's ears flicked several times as she sighed in defeat. "Fiiiiiiine." She drew the sound out as she moved to the kitchen. While she didn't seem truly upset, there was still that high wariness and worry present at the thought.

Yes, it was a good thing that Grenadine didn't point out the irony, or she would have gotten shoved. "We'n get sake next time, amie," he said to Mei. "This the shot, sake the chaser, we all sleep good. I mean, probably too late to go snag it now, Reson'll probably catch you takin' it, if I take you. ...If she care that you takin' a celebratory shot, 'n all."

In short time, Hrist had poured out a number of shots for the group, and stepped away from the table so everyone could take one they felt comfortable with. They were all pretty much the same level of liquid, give or take a few drops.

Metzli pursed her lips. Her metabolism had naturally quickened thanks to her constantly shapeshifting into a form that demanded a lot of energy, but she didn't know how liquor would work in the whole body machine. Would her body just burn it off quickly, so she'd feel it but would recover sooner than the others? Or was liquor weird and it would stay with her longer? She could imagine Damien sighing really loudly in her direction for her wanting to actually experiment, though Metzli would promise she wasn't drinking to get drunk, this was about to become a scientific endeavor.

[Kokinyu]

"World." Grenadine quietly corrected Aloe as she leaned forward to take a glass. She swirled the drink, sighed, and tossed it back.

And for several seconds, her poker face remained intact. But a puff through the nostrils was the first hint of the brief coughing fit that followed. Eyes watering, she placed her drink down. "Th.. that wasss not as ssmooth as I was expecting. Thiss iss not quite like the rum I have had before..."

[Resonance]

Mei took the offered shot and tossed it back without a moment’s hesitation. She then beat her chest a moment and said in a harsh voice, “oh shit, that burns, gods damn.” Once she recovered she replied to Hrist, “Res won’t care. She decided not to come so we wouldn’t all feel awkward about drinking around her. Being the ‘responsible adult’ and all that.”

Eden was more cautious, sniffing the shot to get a sense of it before taking it. Oof, the alcohol content was not kind to the nose. Oh well, down the hatch. Like Gren, she had a good coughing fit.

Hope joined the others at the table and poured out a shot for herself when the bottle came her way.

Aloe poured a second for herself and held it up. "Well sure, don't wait for a toast, you lushes. And I'm the degenerate. Here's to saving the world. Again. And... for being better friends than I could have asked for. Or probably deserved."

Through their bond, Yuki could feel a flash of self-consciousness beneath Aloe's bravado - this was, for her a moment of true sincerity.

Yuki raised a brow as half of the others went ahead and downed their drinks. She picked up one of the glasses as Aloe spoke. Yuki gave her a soft look and a gentle nudge against her side. "What have I told you about that?"

"To saving the world, and good friends." She raised her glass in acknowledgment before focusing on it. Her ears went back for a moment as she realized what she was going to have to do. With a heavy sigh and a grimace, she quickly drank the shot while trying not to breathe. She managed to go a moment before making a face, coughing and making disgusted noises. "I will never understand how people enjoy that."

Aloe would be able to note that Yuki's reaction wasn't fully one of surprise (although the strength had definitely caught her off guard), but also of...expectation? Recognition? Yuki had had alcohol before...

...No, with the level of wariness and resignation still going through her right now, Yuki had been drunk before.

Hrist, after knocking back her shot, blinked at Aloe. She was squinting and her voice went hoarse, but she managed to refrain from falling into a hacking fit. "Oh.. yeah, crap, should be toasting, one second."

In no time, she'd poured herself a second one, held up. She then hesitated because she clearly had no idea what to really say. A few words, a speech?

"...Yeah," she said with a small smile. "We all make a good team, an' better friends. I ain't have friends before meeting any y'all, and I appreciate you. Here's to everything that happened to get us here."

Metzli had managed to not immediately drink hers shot, and chuckled at everyone else's reaction. "Well, I don't think I can top those, y'know, so I won't even try. So here's to saving the island and the world a couple times over, and still having math homework."

Metzli drank her shot, and immediately began coughing, putting a hand on Mei's shoulder for support. "Holy crap Hrist, does your mom make this in the devil's bathtub?"

"Legally, I ain't gotta answer that question."

Still lightly coughing, eyes watering, Grenadine wordlessly raised her tiny glass and tipped back the last drops in it. The reptile then placed it down, dapped her mouth, and in a quiet rasp spoke out, "Here here. To friendsship and... World... ssaving. Go team."

[Resonance]

Mei and Eden likewise refilled their shots to join in on the toasting.

“Likewise. To hard battles won, and good friends to celebrate with,” Mei raised her shot before downing it with the others.

Eden added, “and a fun night ahead!”
