"What's the point of having magnificently exotic magical powers if we don't use them for our own entertainment?" Aloe asked, puzzled.
"That... tannins and flavo-whatsits, can those be replicated through alchemy? Or... if we had sugar and fruit for base ingredients, is there an alchemimcal way of combining them effectively?" While the thought of alchemically-produced alchohol really didn't inspire much faith in the final product in her mind, Aloe felt like this was exactly the kind of nonsense they should be investing their energy in. They were still kids, after all - and this was a heck of a way to spend a day.
Hope leaned against Yuki and opened the book, slowing flipping the pages, showing the illustrations and sections on races and classes.
"Hm... It's a relatively young world, with scattered settlements, and a large space in the center of the continent where an entity called the 'Dungeon' spawns in locations with dangers and treasures... Delvers use caravans as transportation, and retrieve treasure from these...hm, dungeons... to bring back and sell. It seems like most delvers are adventurers, or out to make money, or otherwise explore the nature of the Dungeon.
"There seems to be a lot of room for creative exploration."

Yuki rolled her eyes. "I see you are determined. Fiiiine, I will stop trying to argue against your science experiment." A familiar sense of amused exasperation was sent along their bond before she focused back on Hope and the other discussion.
"Adventuring sounds like an interesting goal. I see the point about escapism. So how do we play?"

"I used my powers to bring this, and sometimes if I wan' just swim not in salty water. in another realm of reality." Hrist shrugged. "It's fun throwin' myself 'round, ain't no reason to be all serious with fun powers. I say make all the liquor you wan make. And honestly, you'n probably think of a combat use for fun uses; I'n destroy a cotton candy monster, we ever get up 'gainst one."
She took another couple sandwiches, switching up the type so she sampled them all in the end. "What fruit you want? Go crazy, people usually use passion fruit or grapes or plums. Get watermelon or dragonfruit or kiwi."
Metzli moved over to look over Hope and Yuki's shoulders, scanning the book as they flipped through it.

"Tanninss are harder- the complexity of..." Grenadine's ear flicked as multiple conversations collided and certain words filtered in from elsewhere. Worlds and treasures provided ample distraction from the admittedly difficult conceptualization of flavonoids.
"The.. uhm.. Vanilla, for instance- real vanilla iss a collection of complex... Molecules. But vanillin iss understood- the main flavor and the most recognizable, itsss easier to make but people can tell the difference. With a drink, you would missing... Ah- sorry, desole-"
She shook her head and leaned toward Hope, completely losing track as one of her descriptions *stole* her focus entirely. "What isss- hold on, c'est- Donjon? Dungeon? Entity? A living..maze?"

“You can also use rice and make sake,” Mei added offhandedly, “potatoes for vodka, various grains and additives for gin, etc.” But her attention was mainly on Hope and her explanation. “Do they have like… different skills and stuff? Or what do they call them… classes and professions for the adventures? I think I’d like to play some kind of swashbuckler, if they have something like that.”
“Oooohhhh,” Eden leaned forward a little upon hearing Mei, “is there one with lots of armour? Like a knight or paladin?”

"But... flavinoids," Aloe whined with mock exasperation as everyone's attention turned toward Hope. With a sight, she poured herself a glass of the pink wine and a finger sandwich, then motioned to Yuki to see if she wanted anything.
Hope looked up and around, finding everyone invested in her idle curiosity. She began flipping through the book, looking up information. There's...18 species in this book, it looks like, from bats and rats to cows and... dragons." Her eyebrows raised at that, but then she flipped to a different section.
"There are eleven classes and even more subclasses. This book only has one subclass for each, but I think there's another book that has more. There's... actually Metzli, there's a type of Fighter called 'The Main Event' that might appeal to you, although they all look interesting. There are indeed paladins, Eden, and this one looks up our alley - the Oath of Revolution, paladins of justice."
She smiled faintly as she flipped through more pages. "And yes, Gren - the Dungeon appears to be a living maze. Sometimes a part of it manifests as a small series of rooms, while other times, it's an extensive labyrinth. There's a section that talks about what it is and isn't, but the notes say it's for the 'Gamemaster' only.
"I think I'll put some effort into seeing how such a thing is run. Then maybe I can run an adventure for everyone. Mm... maybe not everyone at once, but in different groups.

Yuki caught the flitter of attention getting from Aloe, looking over and considering for a moment before shaking her head. She'd refill her drink in a moment; right now she was as curious as everyone else about the "game".
There was a momentarily disappointed nod of understanding when Hope clarified that she would need more preparation. "That sounds like a lot to look through." 18 species? For a game? "Well, like I said, sounds like fun. I'm definitely curious at this point." She sat up straight again, stretching. "So, if we're not doing that tonight, what are our plans? Not that we need to do anything in particular, I just wanted a hang out time, but if anyone has any ideas?...."

The box definitely had a pink wine on its labeling, but what was poured was a dark caramel in color, and carried spice. At passing scent it would almost seem like a spiced rum, but altogether much stronger.
To Gren's apology, Hrist absently patted her on the head once more, too busy eating to say much of anything.
"Different groups? I thought you'd go all in and lead us all in an epic adventure, y'know?" Metzli grinned widely. "'The Main Event' sounds like a showstopper, a headliner at a wrestling match. What do they do?"

Grenadine found herself leaning in at the brief explanation, "... What a dreadful and ssstrange concept. A being that createsss... Roomss? In order to.." She tapped her chin and looked down, thoughtful as her eyes flitted. There was a pattern there, some kind of system. It then dawned on her and her lips pulled into a tight purse, budding excitement on her face. "Ooh.. It luress adventurerss... Like an angler fissh- it musst need something from them. Quelle horreur..."
She leaned back with Hrist and continued to listen from that point, allowing the ideas to percolate over the concept.

Mei nodded at Gren and grinned, “ohhhh that’s a cool way of looking at it. I love it. The lure of treasure and fame, for tasty adventuring morsels, muahahaha…” She seemed like she was really getting into this idea. “Sure, it doesn’t ‘eat’ them, but if they die there their energy gets absorbed by the Dungeon and used to make more treasure to lure future adventures in… hehehe.”
Eden giggled at Mei’s sudden enthusiasm for Gren’s interpretation. “Well, I am sold. I look forward to playing a game, Hope. In the meantime I’m sure we can find another game to play tonight… Or perhaps learn about some of the races and classes for future character creation brainstorming.”

Aloe's eyebrows raised at the unexpected alcohol, and she took a sniff and sip to taste the drink. Just what had Hrist brought?
Hope smiled at the continued enthusiasm for the game. "I will let you all know once I'm ready. I'm glad to know there's such support for something like this."
She closed the book for now and looked at Yuki. "I'm not entirely sure, to be honest. I hadn't planned anything myself... but I knew there would be enough of us here to come up with something."

Yuki shrugged, giving a bit of a side glance to Aloe at the odd surprise she'd felt. "Like I said, not like we need to do anything. It's nice just getting to hang out away from things."
She got up and snagged a donut before heading over to Aloe in the kitchen to refresh her drink. The various alcohols present garnered some ear flicks, along with a raised eyebrow as she noted the dark drink in her glass.

It was unlikely (but not impossible-- she was a Dair, after all) that Aloe would have ever tasted it before since Jenet was really protective of her stock, but it was an open secret that the Captain made her version of a hooch typically traded in Flicky Jagd, the Bilgewater Brew. Plans with going public with an actual brand had been waylaid by conflicts, but that didn't mean there wouldn't have been some made before things started getting horrible.
Jenet didn't want to be an obvious accessory to obvious underage drinking, which is why Hrist couldn't take a godsdamned keg.

Grenadine nodded and began leaning back. "I have heard it sssaid that the less you know about a frightening thing, the more frightening it becomess. The possibilitiess are... Intriguing. Intriguing and unsettling." She laughed.
"... Sso perhapss that iss one way to sspend time while they rebuild the city." She sighed, reminded of how strange it was to not have an active emergency.

“Sounds good to me,” Mei agreed with Gren. She then went to grab a coupe finger sandwiches and to sample some of what Hrist brought (because it very obviously was not wine thanks to Aloe’s reaction and the colour of the liquid).
Eden smiled, “I am sure we can come up with something. But I’m also happy just hanging out, talking, and relaxing.”
