"Let's be honest, that'd be my parents," Aloe said to Hrist, before bumping her hip against Yuki's, feeling proud of herself in that mischievous, annoying way of her's.
"That was the festival where we got the pendants, wasn't it? With all the challenges?"

"That was an adventure," Mei reminisced aloud. "I would love to visit your home again sometime. I feel like we didn't have enough time to really get to know your culture."
Xu had learned the signs of when Metzli craves something specific, so he made a mental note to look up a pineapple upside down cupcake recipe to surprise her with tomorrow, if they couldn't find something tonight.

It wasn't even that hard to figure her out; Metzli tended to be rather blatant when she wanted food-- so much so that she tended to annoy her allies, because it happened so often thanks to how much energy her shapeshifting burned. As a side effect she was fit, but the older people in her family tended to be bigger in stature and it certainly seemed she'd inherited those genes from both her grandfathers.
In any event, Xu's attention to her quick cravings was always appreciated.
Hrist didn't need a pendant to tell that the spotlight shift rattled Yuki, so she just patted her friend's arm and disengaged as Aloe took her girlfriend's side. She a nod to Aloe for both acknowledgement that she was wearing the GF hat, and the note that the Dairs might be willing to get her something, were she so inclined.
"Yeah, that whole summer was... pretty interesting. I really wan go back there one day, have a good week or two to be a tourist, see all the traps and then all the local spots-- you as the guide, if you willin'. Veg out and not worry about danger..." She trailed off as she started thinking about something else that made her eventually scrunch her nose.

"The Festival and the Challenge were separate events, but hai, that was it."
Yuki tilted her head, looking at the others with a bit of confusion. "But you would really want to visit again? Even after all the dislike from the Council? I know Lori said she was going to work on some things, but I haven't been in contact with anyone for a long time now. I don't know how things might have changed." She hunched her shoulders. "I cannot imagine it's gone well, with my disappearance."

Aloe snorted. "We're certified heroes. You think they're really going to turn us away, when we've come from so far to honor one of their own? They should be thanking us for coming to visit."

"The council doesn't matter more to us than you do. I don't really care how they feel about us. I don't plan on visiting and causing trouble, of course, so as long as they keep their noses out of our business, then it doesn't really matter." Mei smiled at Yuki, hoping to reassure her.
She kind of understood the dislike of outsiders, but she certainly didn't agree with it.
Xu mostly just listened along to this part, as the group got to talking about things he'd only heard part of so far. But he did ask, "what did the council do while you were all there?"

Yuki seemed torn between smiling and continuing to look confused, shaking her head. "I didn't mean....I was not worried about trouble like that. I meant why would you want to visit again, knowing that you might still have to deal with that?"
Another shake of her head as she turned to Xu. "My home is very....insular, and does not get much exposure to foreigners. The head of the Council was upset with the "influence" they've had on me." She gave a wry grin towards Aloe. "He had a bit of a meltdown after something weird happened, but thankfully Lori, our...spiritual leader, was able to stop him before anything really bad happened."

Aloe grunted softly. There were some other issues with their visit to Lhunru that had some fallout she hadn't quite cared for, but... things had evened out in the end. Or at least, so much other shit had happened that it was hard to hold a grudge over one thing.
"Well, it's as much your home as Tolaria is. And after all this Argus bullshit, we could use another vacation. Lhunru, Nekohl, the hot, sandy beaches of the Emerald Coast... I think we just need to go somewhere chill to relax for a bit."

Metzli's ears perked up when Nekohl was mentioned. "Oh my gods I haven't been to the Empire in so long. You could all meet my abuelo on dad's side, and maybe you can get a cool set of stabbing things, y'know?"
Her grin was wide at the prospect of being able to drag her friends around Nekohl. "I'll see if dad can get us on a tour of where the Dominoes do business! Then we'll eat so much fish; there's this really long and fat bass that's native to the waters on Siren that is supposed to be buttery eaten by itself, y'know, but it can be dry aged and it's super fancy and expensive but I want to devour it so bad."
She had to take a moment to lick her lips and calm her salivating mouth.
"Oh my gods these cinnamon buns had better be freaking awesome."

Mei nodded as Yuki explained, "their icy shoulders and accusations don't matter to us. If us visiting your home put too much of a burden on you, that's what we care about."
"Ooooh I want to cook that! Do they let you fish in Nekohl? Maybe we could catch one!" Metzli was dreaming of eating it, Xu was dreaming of how to cook it. What a pair, a foodie chef and a foodie connoisseur.

"Oh yeah, you can just get a fishing license at most good fishing spots, then scope out a spot. And I'm sure abuelo has his boat ready to go, I remember him enjoying fishing when he wasn't working. Depending on how many people come we would maybe need to get a second one or just a slightly bigger boat, but that should still be easy enough. Siren is big on fishing, y'know?"
She turned to nod to Yuki. "Yeah, don't worry- we're not worried about what stuck-up adults think about us. We won't go if it stresses you out, though. Like Aloe said, there are plenty of places we can go, y'know? How's Senai doing, though? Think she'd want to come to Nekohl with you?"

Yuki looked completely bemused at the exchange between Xu and Metzli. She'd missed this, hanging out with everyone, out in the open.
Shaking her head, she focused back on Metzli, while giving both a physical and emotional brush of reassurance towards Aloe. "I'm still trying to get back in touch with her. She went back to Lhunru while we were gone. I've sent out some stuff, and with all the media coverage I would not be surprised if word has made its way down there, but it will take some time to hear back."
"I would not mind taking a trip with everyone. I get the feeling I'm going to get dragged back to Lhunru for at least a few weeks, though. Reassuring everyone after disappearing and all that." She looked fairly neutral about the thought, even mildly exasperated, but she still held a small smile, and her emotions were flickering through that homesick feeling still.

Aloe nodded slightly. "Probably. They get worried about you being out here, despite how much ass you kick. Heh, if they only knew half the things you got up to, hanging around with us..."
The gang of Raiders came within sight of the cinnabon truck, which had a small crowd of Raiders handing around it, feasting on the gooey deliciousness. Among them was a very familiar black cat in a peacoat. Hope had touched up her hair in the days since the last battle, shaving down the undercut on one side and trimming some of the shaggier ends on the other side, the green dye in her bangs refreshed and bright.
Beside her was a lanky, pale-furred wolf in attire similar to her own - Lunar, her guardian, keeping her company and making no effort so hide his amused smile as she navigated and over-frosted butter pecan cinnabon while trying to avoid making a mess of herself.

"Oh, we're here! I'll get a cinnamon roll for everyone. Hi Hope!" Xu trotted the last few steps to the truck, waiving to Hope as he did. "Enjoying the festivities?"
Mei caught a scent of the gooey confections, "oh yes, these will be worth the hype.
They smell so good..."

Hrist pulled herself from her introspection and walked to follow after Xu to the truck. She gave a short wave to Hope, but was clearly intent on moving to get food.
Metzli was about to protest Xu buying food for her, but he said he'd get it for everyone, which kind of took the sting out. She sighed with a smile and sidled up to Solar. "Hey, buddy. This your first crazy wild block party like this?"
