Aidan nodded slowly. He still held reservations for what Asvalr wanted, but Resonance's more recent experiences were much more under her terms, so he wanted to be supportive.
The mention of Tolaria brought a brief smile to his muzzle. "Not directly. She was with us in the final moments of the fight, and I was able to feel her relief once we settled back on solid ground, but she's been quiet since we secured the Twilight Crystal with the Raiders. I think she's annoyed at the destruction of Sanctuary... I can sort of feel her, off in the distance, doing... something. I'm not exactly sure what, but at least she's not hurt."

"Thank goodness for that. Gods... what would have happened if Tolaria or her cyrstal were hurt." She knew how connected the crystal was to the island and all its magic, and therefore how integral to their survival. "I wonder if she's looking for another sanctuary."

"I think so. Or is examining the the damage..." Aidan sighed as he finished his fries. "When I was a kid, my dad told me about Sanctuary. How it used to be a mountaintop, and then a pocket dimension over Tolaria, and then finally the chamber in the heart of the island. Each time, it was created by a surge of magical power. He never knew how the realms formed, exactly - whether she guided their creation, or if it was happenstance. I don't think she was aware back then as she is now.
"I've no idea how a new Sanctuary is supposed to be made. I... I'm not entirely sure if she does, either."

"Huh. Well, I guess until then, we'll be keeping her safe." That was a promise. "Gods, to think they almost got her..." she shivered. "You ever wonder if the Universe just has it in for us? Literally, every time we turn around, there's another catastrophe we have to prevent."

Aidan chuckled. "I have. But if you want really to blow your mind? What if the universe positioned us where were are precisely to stop those catastrophes? Like... what if they were going to happen no matter what, but for one reason or another, we've always been pushed into the places we're needed most because we're just... damn good at what we do?"

"I love it when you see the positive side of our weird circumstances," Res grinned, then leaned over to kiss his cheek. "You do have a point, though. Dad wondered about that sometimes, but he didn't like to talk about it. I think the idea of destiny guiding everything that happened in his life was a lot to process and accept. Which... yeah... it's not a very happy feeling."

Aidan grinned. "Well, yeah... my dad hated the idea of fate and destiny too. I don't put much stock in it, but... well, you can only experience coincidence for so long before you wonder. And then there's that ta'veren thing that Damus and Alastair have mentioned before - the idea that some of us have a way of twisting luck and coincidence just by... being.
"I don't know, it's interesting."

"Yeah, it'd be great if we could actually use that to out advantage, as opposed to just having to let it play out. Though I suppose all of us sticking close to one another does bend the odds in our favor quite a bit."

Aidan nodded in agreement and looked out across the crowd of Raiders and vendors mingling in the street. Bending the odds in their favor...
"You know," he said slowly, "once things settle down a bit more... maybe we can leverage that and check on your parents. See what we can do to help them settle things on Kidaria."

Her ears perked up, "do you think we can? I've been worried about them. I know Mei is... But with everything happening on our way back, I'm a bit nervous to do long distance travel like that."

Aidan nodded. "I think my dad would want to see your parents again, and the Legacy was built for that kind of thing - hopping universes, I mean. It was pretty awesome during the battle with Argus, too. I mean, don't get me wrong... flying to a world where TRIumph is actively trying to stir up some bullshit is definitely flying into trouble, so we might now want to rush into it. But it's definitely something that we should do. That I want to do.
"After all, I shouldn't be the only one to get their whole family back, you know?"

Reson leaned over and looped her arm around him, hugging him close as they walked for a few steps. “I really want to know they’re okay. After what we saw…” she shivered, “I’ve been trying to not think about it, and stay positive.”

Aidan put his arm around Reson as she hugged him close, and nodded. "They're okay. Your parents are legends - we'll probably show up on their doorstep while they're cleaning house. So to speak."
He was being positive, but Resonance could feel the current of understandable concern behind his words. He had spent years holding onto the belief his father was alive, even when all the evidence pointed to the opposite. It had been tough, and he had been vindicated in the end, but there had more than one moment when his faith had wavered.
